Dr. Sandra Smith is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in individual, couples and family therapy with over 16 years of experience serving a broad spectrum of clients. She maintains a private practice in San Diego, CA in the Scripps Ranch area. She is fluent in Spanish having lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina for six years, and has experience counseling in Spanish.
Dr. Smith is a graduate of Argosy University San Diego, American School of Professional Psychology, with a Doctorate of Education in Counseling Psychology, and from the University of Utah with a Master’s degree in Social Work. She has worked with adolescents in juvenile treatment programs, and with trauma victims including those with dissociative disorders, PTSD, depression and anxiety. She worked as chair of a focus group for the Governor’s Commission on Marriage in Utah researching couples treatment and enhancement programs which led to the training of couples workshop facilitators. She has worked in a variety of other settings including family and adolescent counseling and rehabilitation centers, a trauma focused counseling center, in hospitals, on a crisis team, and in a prison setting treating clients with behavior /conduct problems and with moderate to severe mental illness.
She is an interactive, solution-focused therapist. Her therapeutic approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges and manage mental health disorders. She integrates complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to fit each client.
